The Chado Mod V2 draws its design language from topographic maps, translating the contours and elevation lines of mountainous terrain into a visual composition on the tama. Inspired by Chad’s appreciation for hiking, nature, and exploration, the concept first took shape during visits to several U.S. National Parks throughout 2021. The tama’s topographic detailing is complemented by a laser-engraved compass surrounding the bevel, complete with a North arrow. This cartographic reference also reflects Chad’s background in Landscape Architecture, where the inclusion of a North arrow is a fundamental convention of map design.
Visual tracking was a central consideration in the development of the tama, informing its half-split composition and the use of two highly contrasting colors. The result is a design that balances geographical inspiration with functional visual distinction.
The mod features a 62mm beech tama with a crushable bevel, paired with a CNC-machined maple ken. The ken shape features the new Kendama Co Shenzhu Shape, Chad’s personal favorite. Alongside the Chado Mod logo on the front of the ken, both the Sol Kendamas and Kendama Co logos are evenly distributed in thirds around the handle of the ken.
The progression of the Chado Mod also reflects Chad’s personal progression in kendama. Having played since 2010, V2 commemorates the dedication and work invested in the discipline over the years. The original V1 featured the Sol 1UP Shape with sticky paint, whereas the V2 is only available on matte paint with the 2026 Shenzhu Shape.
