Kendama is a Japanese wooden toy that has gained popularity around the world in recent years. While the concept of ball in cup, and its many forms, has existed for centuries, the version we know today as kendama wasn't introduced until 1919. This kendama was invented by Mr. Hamatsugu Ekusa, and he named it Nichi Getsu Ball, which means Sun Moon Ball. It was given this name because the Japanese character for Nichi 日 looks like the cups and the Japanese character Getsu 月 looks like the spike. This original design that featured three cups and a spike has gone through many changes over the years, and we are proud to have our own unique shape today.
